Galations Chapter 1

  • For Correction
    • To establish a clear and simple understanding of the gospel of the grace of God in the believer. To give the believer an appreciation of the source and uniqueness of this gospel, thus enabling the believer to guard against being “bewitched” by presentations that actually pervert the gospel of Christ.
    • Gal. 1:6-9; 3:1; 5:1-4
      Galations 1:11,12 deals with v1

4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

  • “deliver” this is the rapture
  • “evil world”
    • what was evil about the world?
      • 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
        • the gospel perverted and robbing others of free salvation

1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

  • they initially start off well!
    • 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
    • “Persuation”
      • 8 This persuasion [cometh] not of him that calleth you.

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

  • “not another”
    • there is no other way to be saved, there is no other gospel
    • how serious is it?
      • 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
        • why would he bring up an “angel from heaven”
          • in the prophecy program, God regularly used angels to convey information
          • Revelation, angels everywhere!
            • The gospel perverted will try to bring you back to the law, the gospel which does not pertain to you. The kingdom of God gospel.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

  • if Paul ever preached another gospel, that would be a violation of the verse above
    • God takes the clarity of the gospel seriously

12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught [it], but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  • Paul got it directly from the Risen Jesus Christ
    • this means alot
      • not of man
      • its different from the gospel of the circumcision
      • direct revelation
      • based on the validity of Paul’s apostleship

9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we [should go] unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

  • the conduct here is saying “the middle wall is still up”
    • We know that Paul rebuked this sharply and publically
    • 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before [them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
      • the truth of which gospel? the gospel of grace
      • the circumcision doesn’t matter in this dispensation

17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, [is] therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

  • notice the “I” ‘s here.
  • im the source of sin, not the grace by which I was saved
    • 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
  • v20 our sanctification
  • v16 our justification
    • by the faith of Jesus Christ

The key to not living in sin is to realize your perfect position in Christ.
The law cannot save you or help you stop sinning,
Beware of trying to return to the law to help you

  • 21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
